Statement on Recent Arrests in Toronto

For Immediate Release
Monday, June 5, 2006

The recent arrests of 17 individuals in Toronto on terrorism-related charges have caused a great deal of concern for our nation.  As the details of the charges against these individuals emerge, it will be important for us as Canadians to uphold the time-honoured traditions of equal justice under the law and to presume these individuals innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. We too anxiously await the trials of these individuals to learn from them what ideology allegedly motivated them to join a cult of terror.

We seek to reassure our fellow citizens that Canadian Muslims should not be judged by the alleged actions of a handful of individuals. Our religion, Islam, is very clear in its condemnation of extremism and terrorism, and MSA National joins all Canadians in denouncing terrorism.

MSA National is an organization comprised of Muslim youth, all of whom care deeply about the safety of our country, and our fellow Canadians.  MSA National is committed to reporting to authorities any individuals who may be involved in a cult of terror and to do our part, as Canadians and as Muslims, to keep our country safe.
